Tamworth Winter Carnival 2007
The 2007 Tamworth Winter Carnival sponsored by
The Chinook Dog Club of America, Inc and Perry Greene Kennel is the most well
attended Chinook dog event held annually for the past 12 years. The event allows
Chinook owners to put their dogs in harness and provide sled dog rides to local
children as it is held in conjunction with Tamworth’s Winter & Ice Harvesting
Festival. This is a very family oriented and open to the public event catered to
the children who have a chance to harvest ice, compete in snow throwing
contests, take a sleigh ride pulled by horses and a chance for everyone to
peruse the Remick Museum.
This years event was every bit as fun as years past and finally a year with snow
and dogsledding for all to enjoy. Everyone had a great time meeting up and
sharing stories about their dogs and taking turns putting them in harness. There
were four teams of Chinooks and many other Chinooks who had a chance to help
pull many children. A lot of people interested in the breed had a chance to talk
with a variety of owners and breeders and meet many of the dogs. As is typical
of the breed all people were greeted by having their faces washed quickly with
what seems an extraordinarily long tongue and sad brown eyes anticipated any
morsel of food the spectator wished to donate. The dogs and owners were equally
tired at the end of the day and were glad for a nap before dinner time at the
Inn. We look forward to this weekend every year, as it is a chance to see many
friends and see how some of our pups are growing up. We can hardly wait for next
years WinterFest!
